Grand Final - Surfers goes down in a Nailbiter 10-1

Great year guys. I couldn't have asked for more with a team mixed from all over, we gelled well. Had loads of laughs and played some pretty good Baseball. About time we mixed up the teams. Great to see some of the so called Div 2  guys show us what they've got. Fantastic year Big Dog, Dusty, Rowdy, Slippery and Sudsy (couldn't have done it without your input Brendan). Also we can't go past our ever present catcher, Ian "come on just throw it" Schuler. Thanks mate for being the backbone.
I don't like to single anyone out as I believe that without the "Team", the individual doesn't exist..................................... Oh Screw It. I was a BLOODY LEGEND.....No, didn't work.
Anyway , thanks for the year guys, sorry about the lame speech at the end but I was caught by surprise.
Just a few thanks.... Thankyou Julie Schuler and Bette Holland for putting up with us and scoring so eloquently (some may disagree???). Thanks Fabio (Paul Bianco), again for putting up with us and our complaining (especially mine) with umpiring whenever we needed you and to Danial Franey for Base umpiring (some great calls against your Dad).
Again guys, thanks for helping me and accommodating me as Manager for the year. I had a barrel of laughs (my wife, Jo didn't, but I did) and can't wait for next season to KICK MUDGEE'S ASS.
See you at the presentation night.

After a 3 week break caused by rain and a bye, the first game back was a knockout final against our close rivals, Carina. As has happened everytime we played Redsox during the year, we just couldn't get away from them. In our last innings we scored 3 runs with a lot of luck with bloopers falling between 3 fielders on 2 occasions. Holding them to 2 runs in their last at bat the boys run out winners 7 - 6 and advance to the Grand Final. This will be held next Monday at 7pm at Palm Meadows v Mudgeeraba. Tickets sure to sell out early

Best for the Surfers was Rob Cunningham who pitched the whole game, Brendan Beck and Jono Perkins whose glove work at 2nd and 1st respectively, saved us a few times. Those to excel with the bat included Ian Shuller with a great 3 base hit and a great night behind the plate and Steve Brough who batted 2 from 3.

Thanks again to Julie Schuler for scoring and Paul Bianco for umpiring.

15th February - Surfers 8  vs  Mudgeeraba  7.

We were back at Palm Meadows again (where you can actually SEE) versing our arch nemesis. Always a good game against Mudgee as they keep coming at you. Once again our fielding was letting us down a bit but not too bad.Mudgee had us 5-0 after 2 digs and then our bats started to talk. Great efforts by Sudsy (Brendan Beck), Dusty (Grant Franey) and Jonno who hit the winning run when it was 7 all in the last. Pete Crutchfield pitched reasonably well for his first outing on the mound with Surfers, and Big Dog (Rob Cunningham) finished off. We play at Carina next week which should be a good game. See you there.

8th February - Padres 0  vs  Surfers 9.

Don't let the score fool you, this was a beauty. Both teams batted reasonably well but our fielding let us down again. Padres led into the last innings by 1 run (I know, keep reading) with 14 minutes to go. We needed to hit 2 runs in, get out and then get them out in that time frame. The Padres pitcher seemed to think that time wasting is part of the rules and conduct and proceeded to INTENTIONALLY waste time. He was warned 3 times by the blue and eventually ejected. His shortstop then thought it was a good idea to mouth off to the same blue and HE got ejected. Surfers win by default. Just goes to prove, never give up and ................................You take 'em as you get 'em .

Monday 22nd February      Surfers 11 Carina 8

As the season gets closer to the finals, the contests get tougher each week. After jumping out with 5 runs in the first innings, the boys from Carina, kept coming at us all night before the Surfers held on in a close one.  With contributions from all 10 players it was hard to pick our best on the night but I will. Rowdy wins this week with 2 great hits, the second drove in 2 much needed runs and his soccer skills in left field still dazzle us. He just pips Greg Leganis, at short stop, sometimes known as Dusty. He dived at everything. Dusty, we had a call from Carina and they would like some of the dirt from their infield back.  Other star performances came from Laingy who batted 2 from 2, Ian Schuler who had 3 from 3 hits (none of which left the infield) and of course Big Dog who pitched the full game.

Next week we play Wests in the late game. See you there.

Well, where do I start.......... We did everything possible to LOSE this game and still got up 13 - 12 thanks to our batting. I think we'll just brush over the fielding, however Paul Simpson and Rob "Big Dog" Cunningham pitched well and Ian Schuler behind the dish was a God send. I didn't think Vaseline was allowed on baseball's............?
Thank God for our bats, we are still undefeated. Special mention for circus performer of the week goes to Big Daz (even though he'll kill me for saying this) and the longest distance run to second from Steve "Slippery" Horrigan.
Anyway, let's give Mudgeeraba a "whoopin' " next week at Mudgee at 7pm.

9th  November, 2009:  Score:  9 – 5  (Surfers Win)

2 games, 2 wins. For a team that has been thrust together we’ve “gelled” well. Excellent pitching by Allan Mills (with gammy legs) and Darren Nicol (first time on the mound) saw us hold the opposition to limited runs (we won’t mention a certain Short Stop). The bats cracked well with a special mention for Paul Simpson with an in field home run (Call for Oxygen!!!!!) and great base running by Rob Cunningham and Grant Franey to stay alive.
Let’s keep it going guys and show Brisbane how Masters is played.

2nd  November, 2009:  Score:  8 – 2  (Surfers Win)

A new era in Masters Baseball started this year with Monday night games in the Brisbane league. Our Masters team is made up of 3 teams and the guys played as one for an impressive win over Mudgeeraba. Great pitching by Rob Cunningham and Paul Simpson held Mudgee’s runs down and good fielding by all. Our bats hit well considering a lot of us haven’t played at night. If this is our form…look out Brisbane!!!!
